The 4Cs of Lab-Grown Diamonds
The 4Cs of Lab-Grown Diamonds
Choosing the perfect diamond is an art of balance between beauty and value. The 4Cs—Carat, Cut, Color, and Clarity—are the globally recognized standards for assessing diamond quality and brilliance.
Carat (Weight)
Carat measures a diamond's weight, not its visual size. 1 carat equals 200mg and is divided into 100 "points." While weight influences scale, a masterfully cut diamond can often appear larger than its carat weight suggests.
Diamond prices increase exponentially with carat weight. For the best value, consider "under-size" weights like 0.9ct, which look nearly identical to 1.0ct but at a significantly better price point.
Cut (The Soul)
Cut is the most critical of the 4Cs. It determines how a diamond interacts with light to create Brightness, Sparkle, and Fire. A superior cut maximizes the return of light, giving the diamond its life.
Excellent (EX) · Very Good (VG) · Good (G) · Fair (F)
Color
The scale for white diamonds ranges from D (Colorless) to Z (Light Yellow).
- D-F (Colorless): Ultimate purity and rarity.
- G-J (Near Colorless): Exceptional value for the naked eye.
Clarity
Clarity measures the presence of tiny natural inclusions or surface blemishes.
The "Eye-Clean" Goal: For lab diamonds, VS1 or VS2 are often indistinguishable from flawless to the human eye.
Why IGI Certification is Essential
While GIA created the 4Cs, IGI (International Gemological Institute) is the world’s leading authority for Lab-Grown Diamond certification. An IGI report provides an unbiased grade and confirms the diamond's ethical origin.
Laser Inscription: Matching its unique certificate for absolute peace of mind.
